Biography
Harold Hansen has been painting professionally since 1969. A graduate of Herron School of Art of Indianapolis, IN, Hansen has produced over 1,000 works in a variety of media including oil painting, watercolor and stone lithographs.
Inspired by a love of travel, Hansen’s work often incorporates international architecture and natural landscapes. He states: All of my subject matter come from something I’ve seen, someplace I’ve been. Something that moved me enough to want to try to capture what I felt about it. My early work reflected my background of having grown up on a farm. Lots of barns, fences, plants, rural scenery in general. From the very beginning I would occasionally do something from one of the contiguous forty-eight states that I’ve traveled in, but in recent years my work has come more from my travels to other countries, and only occasionally from nearby surroundings.”
Since his move to Wisconsin in 1965, Hansen has owned a gallery in Cedarburg, written a book about local architecture entitled “Sketches of Cedarburg,” and worked extensively in the field of graphic design. His work hangs in private and corporate collections in 23 states. He has also participated and received awards from several national competitions including the Rocky Mountain Juried Miniature Show and South Carolina’s Annual Miniature Show.
Hansen currently works in his home studio in Hartford, Wisconsin.
