Statement

My artistic work encompasses three areas, abstract acrylics, oil landscapes/abstracts and mixed media/collage encaustics. Encaustics, a wax medium, include text found in print or written by myself that relate to the human condition and our daily lives. Subject matter may include the mundane "stuff" we have to deal with every day such as in the work "Blurred Lines." The piece includes a statement found in some government documents that indicate that personal information will never be destroyed. "Teenage Diary" points to the potential teen problem of unwanted pregnancy. Some works lead the viewer to think about art in our lives.
My acrylic abstract paintings are the culmination of my decisions about color, line, form, space and relationships. I like the mystery of line and shape, appearing and then disappearing within hidden layers of thought. I find that I love working with line, square and circle shapes. Adding crayon and pencil to the paint. Acrylic abstracts are executed in large format and smaller. Oil and cold wax abstracts are small format and are mounted on stainless steel.
I, additionally, work in small format oil/cold wax. These small, intimate paintings are in the abstract or minimal landscapes. My landscapes are an attempt at giving the viewer a new view of the subject, my view. My landscapes are created with minimal detail and emphasis on color combinations. They are currently executed in small format with a palette knife in oil/cold wax medium allowing for texture and layers of paint. they are mounted on stainless steel for presentation.
I have been painting most of my life, professionally for the past twenty-five-plus years. Currently, my studio is in my home. I have done a great deal of teaching and have served as officer and board member of numerous art organizations.
I believe that everyone has the ability to produce art. It does not depend on "talent." It does depend on imagination and knowledge of how to use art materials. Original art has something special that you can not find in a print. That something is the impact of the artist, themselves. Searching for that originality is my biggest challenge.
My current artistic goal is to enlarge my small format, oil/cold wax landscapes and abstracts while keeping the intimacy and impact of the smaller version. I want to capture that moment of awe when the sun goes down or the storm washes clean the land. I hope to do this with color and form instead of detail.

Biography

Professional painter, Claudette Lee-Roseland began her artistic life with drawing lessons from a local painter before she went to kindergarten. Her interest in art was fueled early on with trips to the Chicago Art Institute and paintings hung in her home which she attempted to copy as a child. Her artistic life soard after taking ajob with a local art materials store where she developed an art education program that related to the products sold in the store. As instructor of the classes, she broadened her knowledge of materials and how to use them to create. During this time, she maintained a studio in the "Pittsburg Building" in downtown Milwaukee. Participating in the annual Studio Crawl, many of her paintings found homes. At this time, she developed a line of painted tiles that were sold at the Milwaukee Art Museum and numerous retail locations around the country.
Over the years, she has participated in art fairs, one-man and group shows. Her work has not gone unnoticed.
