Biography

I was born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico, a city at the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains. The contrasting blend of the natural and urban landscape of this city lead me to develop an interest in planning and design. After moving to the US, I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from UW-Milwaukee.
As a painter, my work is strongly influenced by buildings and mountains. I work with paint and soft pastels and use non-traditional tools to explore the graphic potential of layered compositions on canvas, in a similar way the architect layers the experience of a series of spaces on her site. Each piece is a collection of moments representing the experience of a place, a journey, an event, or a conversation.
A three week long road trip through the Midwest and the Rocky Mountains this past summer is the main source of inspiration for my most recent work. The paintings in my ‘Moved by Mountains’ series are an interpretation of the continuous change in topography and the shape-shifting of massive landforms that is experienced by driving through winding roads. In each painting, I intuitively pour paint, overlap shapes, and create washes and marks to reproduce the memory of the energy and motion of the mountains. (Source: artist's website)
