Robert Maclaurin (b. 1961) is a Scottish artist, exhibiting internationally, living and working in both Scotland and Australia. Predominantly landscape–based, his initial en plein air paintings and drawings lead to major works in the studio, capturing the contrasting environments of the Scottish and Australian Wilderness.

Robert Maclaurin graduated from Edinburgh College of Art (1983) with a Drawing and Painting BA(Hons) degree and a Post Graduate Diploma with distinction the following year.

After a Royal Scottish Academy travelling Scholarship to Italy in 1984, he won a Turkish Government Scholarship, painting in Istanbul for 15 months. This experience inspired and informed his work for over 15 years with many returns to far Eastern Anatolia. He has been a full time career artist since 1985, continuously exhibiting and winning numerous grants, awards and residencies over the years.

After completing the prestigious Durham Cathedral Artist in Residence, (1994), he was awarded the Sir Robert Menzies Fellowship to paint in Australia for 18 months and subsequently he was awarded a Distinquished Talent Visa and Permanent Residency.

His work of mountainous and arid regions have won him critical acclaim and numerous awards and prizes over the years, including first prize in the prestigious Noble Grossart Scottish Painting Award.

He has had commissions from The Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh, The Dundee Contemporary Print Centre, Scotland and from The English National Trust, amongst others. His works are held in important public, corporate and private collections all over the world.

In 2016 he completed an Artist-in-Residency at Ateliers Höherweg, Düsseldorf, Germany. He has been awarded a future 2 month residency there in 2019. He has a solo exhibition at Piers Feetham Gallery, Chelsea, London in September.
