Statement
My art represents my view of my surroundings through my dreamy, impressionistic lens. My goal is to say more with less and let the viewer use their own imagination when they enter my art space. Themes I enjoy are Montgomery County’s Agricultural Reserve and the Adirondack Park landscapes. Motifs that interest me are reflections, mist, light, mountains, local animals, birds, waterfowl, trees, flowers, gardens, old buildings, antiquities and figures. I paint these all with a profound appreciation of their beauty and hope for their preservation.
Biography
Cynthia Jennings Field was born and raised in Bethesda, Maryland and holds a BFA from Moore College of Art and Design, where her interest in drawing and painting took forefront. She is a Signature Member of The Maryland Pastel Society and Associate member of both The Baltimore Watercolor Society and The Washington Watercolor Association. She also is a juried member of the Countryside Artisans Group which hosts studio and gallery tours three times a year.
In the past Cynthia has worked in the fields of Graphic Design, Antiques and Architectural Salvage, and with Washington D.C. mural artist Byron Peck before branching out on her own as an artist. Georgetown Park Food Court was one of the projects in which Cynthia collaborated with Bryon and other artists to paint a large scale mural on the ceiling.
After establishing her own business, Cynthia was commissioned by That’s Amore and Memphis Barbeque restaurants to provide large scale murals. Her paintings were installed in numerous locations throughout the DC area, including FedEx stadium. In addition, she designed and painted murals and finishes for many residential clients throughout the Washington D.C. area.
Since relocating to Barnesville, MD, Cynthia's focus has been on creating fine art, jewelry made from found objects and primitive/whimsical signs on salvaged wood. Along with her husband, who provides her with salvaged pieces, they design artisan furniture made from reclaimed elements. Together, they are also dealers of repurposed and vintage finds at the Cottage at Leesburg.
