Statement
My use of the palette knife creates a highly energetic and intentionally broader, less detailed interpretation of the landscape. I paint with the intention of inspiring in the viewer a renewed reverence for and understanding of the natural world.
Biography
After completing a long federal service career, Jan Cosseboom began trying out a wide variety of new activities, one of which was oil painting. She was delighted to find the never-ending source of learning and joy that painting, and especially plein air painting, has provided. Since that time, she has had the opportunity to study with and paint beside many well-known and very inspiring artists, some of whose work you see at Lockhouse Gallery.
Jan has participated in juried and non-juried events and shows, and attended classes and workshops across the U.S. and overseas. Most recently, she had the distinct privilege to study classical art at the Schuler School - a small atelier in Baltimore - and continue with one-on-one training today. She holds a bachelor’s degree in technology management and master’s in administration and plans to pursue academic study in the future while continuing to paint and travel in the U.S. and abroad.
