Italian-born artist Paola Pivi takes inspiration from Alaska, where she lives and works, in her series of feather-adorned polar bear sculptures. The playful figures convey human actions and emotions: the large blue bear flirtatiously peers over her shoulder, while the baby bear waves acrobatically from his trapeze. Their electric colors come from Pivi's previous experience living in Delhi, India, where she was surrounded by the saturated colors of Indian urban life.

Though the feather bears seem to be having a great time, their eagerness for our attention borders on desperation. Both of these polar bears preen and pose from dangerous heights, reminding us of the perilous position of their counterparts in the real world. Due to climate change, polar bears' habitat is heating up twice as fast as the rest of the planet, critically endangering these majestic creatures.
