The artist Greely Myatt grew up in the Mississippi Delta, where he would often see large quilts draped over his grandparents' outdoor clotheslines. For the past three decades, the artist has made sculptures modeled after quilts using his childhood memories as inspiration. Working in his studio in West Memphis, AR, Myatt made this group of quilts out of traffic signs, which he then cut and riveted to painted aluminum plates.

The three quilts that comprise this sculpture employ different patterns traditionally used in quilt making, each with its own unique name: Lady of the Lake, Tumbling Blocks, and Drunkard's Path. Unlike traditional quilts, though, these sculptures stand up on their own, rigid, and upright instead of soft and draping. In this way, they might be understood as monuments celebrating everyday life in the region.
