Born and raised in Santa Monica, CA to Shanghainese parents, painter Louise “Ouizi” Jones is best known for her large-scale floral mural installations which can be seen throughout the U.S., from museums to public parks.
Her murals are tailored to each site, featuring plants and animals that are native or endemic to the specific region. Summer Always Blooms features peonies, dogwood, and monarch butterflies. Peonies, while originally native to Asia, thrive wonderfully in Northwest Arkansas. Dogwood trees are native species to this region, count among the first flowers to bloom here and signify the change into the warmer months.
Ouizi’s affinity for botanicals began from an early introduction to the artwork of Georgia O’Keeffe. In 2018 she was invited by Crystal Bridges to create a site-specific mural for the exhibition The Beyond: Georgia O’Keeffe and Contemporary Art, where O’Keeffe’s work was displayed alongside contemporary artists who created artworks in response to O’Keeffe’s legacy.
