Lotus VII is one of the densest paintings in the series. On the large square surface, fragments of flesh-toned bodies mingle with fields of red and orange, firmly outlined green leaves, petrol-blue blades and flowers of an almost animal texture. At the centre, a leopard-spotted orchid holds the eye, accompanied by red proteas and by white and burgundy forms that recall open seeds.

Fernanda Terra describes in these paintings a mass of torsos, breasts, thighs and arms entwined with tropical foliage, living and pulsing matter. In Lotus VII this fusion reaches its point of greatest saturation: the figure dissolves into colour, and the eye needs time to tell where the body ends and the plant begins.

The scale envelops the viewer and reproduces, in the experience of looking, the immersion of someone walking through a forest. The lotus, a flower that bursts from murky water, lends the series its image of emergence: the body as something that sprouts, opens and exposes itself.
