This is a mind's eye painting of Melaleuca stands on South Coast headlands. You know the ones? Where their canopies are so conjoined it's like they're a single undulating head with a thousand legs. Where the canopy is scarped and skewed by rough salt winds; yet densely radiant, singularly green. The underneath, an impenetrable thicket of scraggly grey sticks and scrub. These determined huddles of trees always lit a curiosity and admiration in me.
