When I start a painting, I resist taking too much control, instead I allow the painting to take the lead. This is an exciting process because it is wonderful to see what marks reveal themselves.
I like to create a natural sense of chance – it’s at this moment amazing things can reveal themselves and these marks expose possibilities that I couldn’t even have thought of. It is after many layers, that the painting slowly reveal itself, it takes time to develop.

I am continually looking for unexpected moments in the work and it is at that point that magical things can happen or you could lose the whole painting. The Ghost is an apparition, a glimmer of the landscape that once was. An enduring message herald from the past.
