Dennis Golding was born and raised in Redfern during the 90’s and into the 00’s.
In this painting Eveleigh Street Redfern, Golding draws upon his childhood memory during the year 2000 of derelict houses from the top of Eveleigh Street These houses were once filled by community members including his family who migrated from country NSW to Redfern in the 70’s in pursuit of better employment and community connections.

His depiction of the empty homes stand as a reminder of how families (including his own) once lived in this community, but then removed out of the city due to gentrification.
