Discarded Trolley Close to Belongil Beach, 2022
30 × 40 × 4 cm Oil on BoardNot Available
The ubiquitous abandoned trolley left because it has served its purpose of delivering goods to a desired spot. Discarded into the landscape until needed again.
Was this trolley the safe transport for the tired legs of a toddler, an inebriated soul or a schoolies making their way to the beach in a rights of passage where the trolley has become a chariot?
Was it the carriage for someone’s only possessions as they found their way to a safe sleeping spot in the near by dunes of Belongil Beach?
I don’t know, but what I do know is that there is a story that this trolley has.
My painting practice reflects the landscape, and our interaction with it, I explore themes of home, belonging, identity, and place and the presence of this discarded trolley close to my home felt important for me to acknowledge.
