This Painting, 'Lone Tree"" was painted alla prima and en plein air. The location is Lake Pillans Wetlands Lithgow, traditional home of the Wiradjuri, Gundungurra, and Darug nations. Painting from life forces me to take liberties with the facts because everything is moving. The subject moves, the painter moves, the light changes, and so does my mood. Trying to nail down fleeting experiences into one supercharged image is what drives and gives me joy. For me, painting is a way of drawing with colour. And every mark one puts down is an abstraction, a reminder we are mortal.
