‘Between Peninsulas’, painted en plein air, is inspired by journeys through the Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas and the aesthetics and narrative storytelling of 18th century tapestries and embroidery samplers. It depicts an emu and its young passing through the ancient land, feeding on native coastal berries growing on low shrubs. Two middens show the presence of First Nations Australians, the world’s oldest continuous cultures, and tall ships on the horizon signify the immense change to come.
