This painting was created as a response to the dramatic changes in the earth’s climate both nationally and abroad. With contemporary news being filled with ever more reports of natural disasters, those who have experienced the aftermath of Australia’s bush fires, these reports are both worrying and saddening. To begin to conceptualise the fact that these will only get worse in the future if no action is taken to preserve the earth’s climate is almost impossible. Having been witness to the bitter unforgiving nature of bushfires in Australia, this painting has been created as an attempt to preserve the memory of these past devastating events. The painting acts as a constant reminder of what Australia as a nation has gone through almost ever summer that I can remember. I intend for this painting to act as a step towards hope where we can learn from the past but never forget.
