This is a painting of Freshwater Bay on the banks of the Swan River in Perth/Boorloo, Western Australia. Bushland meets grass meets sand meets water. Karrakatta refers to the sandbar in Freshwater Bay and means ‘the place of crabs’. A red sail turns away from the viewer at the centre of the composition, pointing north to south. A nautical flag resembling Xray (stop your intention) blows towards the bottom right as an Eastern Osprey enters above. We see the bay from both the rivers edge and from a topographical perspective.
