As a pictorial idea this painting is based on island formations, sourced from the coastal areas of Australia; in particular the northern coastline where the shape of Australia is fragmented by clusters of islands
In a metaphorical reading these island shapes imply human co-habitation. They represent individuals in symbolic shape, size and variation, pulling away and towards one another, with interconnecting lines of energy.
Maps are used to guide and organise; we chart a course using a map with the regular structure of a map grid and symbols.
