A photographic portrait of my Goddaughter set against the altered sky of Jean Honoré Fragonard’s Love as Folly, c. 1773/1776. The photograph is embellished and adorned with golden thread hair cuffs decorating her braids, and her sleeves are hand-embroidered with French knots. She holds two “restored” dolls, one originally created and sold as a “mammy” figure holding a white child, the other, a baby, I found separately in a different antique shop. Reuniting them symbolically restores a severed bond.
