I remember my dad making Black-eyed peas, mostly around New Year’s. For a long time, I thought it was just something we did for good luck, but through this series learned much more about the tradition and role of Black eyed peas. I am most definitely not the best chef in the family, but once I know how to make something, I make it good! I’ve since taken over this tradition of Black eyed pea making in my own family. At first, I made them to keep the tradition alive and to feel connected to my dad. Then I learned how to actually season them and cook them well.
