This Landscape doesn't make sense Chapter C, 2025
100 × 100 cm Oil on BoardSold
The most austere in series of austere works, this painting subverts traditional notions of landscape painting. So far the results of this series, submitted to other competitions have been polarising and controversial; an outcome that is pleasing to my queer practice. My work engages in queer-phenomenology and as such I seek to explore my sense of bodily self in every work made. Loosely based on a source photograph taken by me near Hobart, the sky and foreground are reduced to mere vertical stripes while the mid-ground, originally a bucolic setting with buildings and gumtrees is a striped mess.
