This work explores modern civilisation’s growing dissonance with the natural world we inhabit.

While visiting my brother in Hobart, my family and I took a trip to Bruny Island. Looking east past Lighthouse Bay toward the headlands, I was struck by the weight of history and a sense of permanence - reminded of what existed before us, and what will endure long after we fall.

With the cautionary myth of Icarus in mind, the painting reflects on humanity’s relentless drive for dominance - a pursuit that, in a new age of AI, modern warfare, and climate uncertainty, feels increasingly precarious.
