This painting is inspired by the shimmer that occurs when sunlight reflects off a rippling body of water. This dazzling phenomenon always has a trance-like hold on my attention, and I feel awestruck whenever I’m near the coastline and able to witness it. Phthalo blue curtains dominate the composition, drawing the eye to the theatrical central display of a glittering ocean, partially framed by a heron-shaped railing. The deep contrast between the darker tones of phthalo blue and the nearly white, simplistic forms of the ripples creates the painted illusion of sparkling water.
