Angelina Wu,(18 years old) a Year 12 student studying at Ryde Secondary College, has been heavily inspired by her Chinese heritage and Australian upbringing, blending both cultures' elements in my art. She works across digital and traditional media. She enjoys making character design, human studies, and storytelling through creative expression, such as in her artwork or artist statement.
Artwork Statement:This work captures a quiet, sunlit road in the countryside of Orange, NSW, where rows of vineyards stretch into the distance under a sky alive with shifting clouds. Created with watercolour, coloured pencil, and acrylic, the layered textures mirror the richness of the land itself soft washes for the sky, detailed strokes for the trees, and bold contrasts between light and shadow along the road.
At its heart, this piece is personal. It reflects my mum’s regular journeys to this place, where she helps oversee the grape harvest that contributes to Australia’s winemaking. The scene is not just a landscape, but a memory of routine, distance, and care of work that happens quietly, away from the fast pace of city life.
In contrast to Sydney’s dense urban environment, this painting emphasises openness and stillness. The glowing autumn tones and expansive sky suggest a sense of renewal, where nature feels untouched and time slows down. Through this, the artwork explores how places tied to work can also hold beauty, connection, and a deeper sense of calm.
