Charred is one of a series of woven horsehair sculptures that respond to the reality of wildfires and their increasing frequency on our heating planet. The series began after the devastating bushfires of 2019/2020. Each year since there have been similar conflagrations here and in other parts of the world: flammable catastrophes seem to be the new norm globally.

My practice is grounded in tactility, and horsehair is the perfect tactile medium - it beckons the hand, and it is produced by skin.
