AUD 4800Opus is a site-responsive sculpture emerging from sustained observation of the landscape surrounding The Cotton Mills in Footscray. Distilling the visual language of the built environment into colour, structure and pattern, it could only have emerged from this place. The dialogue between fixed geometry and organic fringing symbolises the relationship between built and natural environments. Constructed from slab-built ceramics and handwoven fibres, the sculpture reveals the continual interplay of industrial architecture and the resilient ecologies that inhabit it.
