AUD 7200This sculpture draws inspiration from the protists, fungi, lichens and plant life of Takayna in western Tasmania, one of the world’s last surviving Gondwana rainforests. Transforming reclaimed industrial textile waste through stitching, dyeing, painting and resin, Kawabata creates an imagined life form that embodies the spirit of this ancient ecosystem. The work evokes the hidden networks of life beneath the forest canopy, offering a contemporary interpretation of the richness, resilience and biodiversity of the Australian landscape.
