In the mundane of a daily commuter landscape – the bland repetition of the inanimate, the rigor and rhythm of services, sleepers, tracks, conduits, pipes, containers, panels, concrete, dust, dirt and stain – there is a human cry…’I am here !’

The contrived infrastructure becomes a graffiti canvas. With intuition and creativity, personality and vitality emerge. My response is….. ‘I see your hand’. A truly dynamic urban landscape.

"In terms of my approach, I find myself grappling with the essence of things I experience. For example, we walk past many buildings, walls, facades, details and places that are rich with design, texture, patterns and 'story'. How did they get there, what are they for ? Add sunlight with resulting shadows and it all gets very interesting. Jump across to wider natural landscapes and they all have something to say........and in Australia are anything but tidy. I guess I'm happy to ‘read’ what I feel and then seek to express that and celebrate these experiences." - Rick Bardsley-Smith
