I live on beautiful Peramangk land, and every Summer we prepare for bushfires by having an evacuation plan, a “go bag” and a meeting point.
A few years ago, we had to evacuate to the city because of how close a fire came.
A few days after our return home, I collected charcoal from some trees to make the ink to paint this work. It is a physical reminder of the potentially destructive power of Summers on Peramangk land.
