The Big Prawn (West Ballina) is part of my ongoing exploration of Australia's Big Things, documenting the monuments and places that quietly shape our collective memory. Standing at the gateway to Ballina, this iconic roadside landmark celebrates Australia's kitsch identity, transforming an everyday staple into a cultural monument. Painted as a photorealistic Polaroid, the work captures the nostalgia of family road trips and well-worn photo albums, with subtle imperfections in tone and framing echoing the character of cherished instant film.
