A place that visits me. 
I recall a recent dark period that I’ve finally exited. On a random melancholy stroll one night, I saw the culmination of all my feelings, I stopped in my tracks to appreciate the scene of walking into darkness. I saw and felt many things that could only be described by living in the atmosphere of the time. At different times this year, I interpret different things seeing my own painting, but the memory, emotions and atmosphere itself is locked inside this particular park in the inner west, that I now associate many other similar- looking parks with.

Alice Xu’s oil paintings are inspired by her habits as a flaneur, flaunting the streets and city, and documenting the fleeting scenes and moments she sees in mundane life. Using various methods of collage and photomontage and by compositing and arranging these unappealing scenes into something more whimsical and pleasant, her own experience of the world becomes more aesthetic.
