Garage - sometimes you can see much more - Installation, 2009
1’ 17” audio, video, colourThe video installation unfolds as a cycle of revelation and withdrawal. A shutter rises with a loud clatter: raw light, the horizon, breath. Then it falls: darkness, return, weight. This simple mechanism creates a powerful threshold between the artificial and the natural, inside and outside, control and surrender. The metallic clang of the shutter meets the organic sound of wind and waves, not as opposites, but in single flow. In the interval, an invisible knot of tension is loosened and re-tied; the act of alternating between seeing and not seeing becomes a source of vision. Contrast becomes breath, and in that breath is harmony. Inspired by Edward Hopper’s Room by the Sea, the work invites the viewer, in solitude, to become fully immersed in the sensory experience, and discover that “sometimes you
see much more” precisely in the act of shutting and
reopening your gaze.
