2013 - 2017
metamorphosen (metamorphosis), 2013 / 2017 is a series of sculptures using umbrellas and wires as source material. Both material are found. The umbrellas were picked up in the urban landscape; Damaged by weather conditions against which they were promised to offer shelter.
The collected objects are unveiled from the torn fabric and reduced to their post-functional skeletons. The shape caused by the damage is the vantage point for the development of each sculpture/creature. As these mechanical objects lost their functionality, the comfort of shelter, they transformed into organic forms.
The sculptures are playful and beautiful and at the same time dangerous and eerie, they resemble insects.
As part of the body of work “metamorphosen” (metamorphosis) I created drawings that evolved during my process of making my sculptures, out of found materials and umbrellas. As much as they are a study of lines and shapes, they simultaneously refer to a space non visible in the sculptures itself. A space, that once created safety but has been torn apart and then reinvented.
