Biography
Born Thaddeus Czebotar on October 28th, 1915 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Polish immigrant parents (John Czebotar and Stella Sienkiewicz). Czebotar was largely self-taught and traveled extensively to to hone his artistic skills, train hopping and hitchhiking west. He sells sketches for food and saw many limitations of formal art study. After returning to Wisconsin in 1937, he began using his sketches from out west as references for watercolors, graphite, and oil works.
Czebotar impresses Manhattan art dealer, Maynard Walker enough to justify his first one-man show in New York at Walker Galleries. This show is later loaned to the Milwaukee art Institute and others. He continues to show nationally and travel extensively until the late 1970s. However, he continues the daily exercise of making art for the remainder of his life. He passes in his home July 28th, 1996.
