This work was made in Autumn 2023.
Autumn is the best season to paint outdoors in Hill End. The cooler weather, the palette and the light make for good painting conditions.
I have been using this small format for over a decade which has become central to my practice of plein-air painting.
My aim is to distil the experience of seeing - which is never one moment in time, it’s a sequence of observations and responses that exist in their own time and place.
